Gardner Research Market Reports

While 2017 was a great year for manufacturing, 2018 has been a record-breaking boom throughout the industry. The GBI: Metalworking, an indicator of U.S. machine tool orders (USMTO) from Gardner Intelligence, has been closely monitoring the growth of the industry, and according to Steven Kline Jr., Chief Data Officer for Gardner Intelligence, the Metalworking Index indicates that although growth will slow throughout 2019, the industry will continue growing. According to Kline, machine tool consumption will end the year at $7 billion, and 2019 will experience 11-percent growth over that number.

GBI: Medical

Gardner Intelligence’s quarterly review of the medical industry – based on Gardner’s proprietary data and the quarterly financial filings of 70 publicly-traded medical firms – revealed an industry that continues to see growing free cashflow and revenues. In the 12-month period ending with the first quarter of 2018, total free cashflow grew by nearly 3 percent after posting three prior quarters of contractions. At the same time, revenue growth was reported above 7 percent, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) contracted by slightly less than 2 percent.

Gardner Business Intelligence's Capital Spending Survey is an annual survey that collects statistics regarding budgeted spending on machine tools, testing equipment, software and more that are then projected across the metalworking industry based on plant size.

Gardner Research's sixth "Media Usage in Manufacturing Facilities" study profiles today's manufacturing professional; reveals the types of information they use and examines the media channels they are using to find that information.

However, new to this year’s survey is actual import and export data for every country that imported at least $100 million of machine tools in at least one year since 2001. This added 34 more countries to the overall survey.
